Anyone knows of side effects using such devices for a long time?

Are FM transmitters harmful as cellphones?

Well, the jury is still out as to whether cell phones are actually hazardous, but if FM transmitters are harmful, then you still shouldn't worry. Most FM transmitters put out much less power than cellphones.
