1. Save http://www.slimeland.com/misc/glut32.dll to c:\windows\system
2. Download http://www.slimeland.com/misc/proj2.exe and run it

You're all smart so I'll leave the experimenting up to you. If you can't figure out what to do, try right clicking =)

This is a project for my computer graphics class due on monday night. We're learning OpenGL, and I'm having a lot of fun with it =)

Sorry Slime...doesn't work for me...I have to have glut32.dll and proj.exe in the same directory for it to run, but even then it can't find a certain entry point in kernel32.dll

Sorry ol fella, it just shows a plain black window, nothing going on in there. I did right click and had a fiddle with the settings, but again nothing happened.

What about those of us lucky enough to use Linux? Planning on releasing a Linux version, or the source, so we can see the masterpiece as well?

you'll have to click 'simulation/start' after adding stuff for anything to happen.

it was fun, though it started lagging at about 30000 particles and half a dozen masses ;-)

Skaarjj: not sure what's wrong there, must just be differences in operating systems or something, I dunno. This will only work on Windows, Veneficuz - even if I released the source, it relies on GLUT, which I believe is Windows only, though I may be wrong. Either way, I really shouldn't release the source until after the due date =)

For the rest of you, if you can't figure out what to do with it, try right clicking, and do these things:

particles -> add particles -> 10000
masses -> add mass -> large
simulation -> start

Once it starts looking boring, try

particles -> set direction -> inward -> proportional

And right when all the particles zoom back to the origin, right click again, and either do the same thing, or select radial -> clockwise/counterclockwise, or maybe just particles -> set speed -> stop, or whatever you want. Keep adding masses and removing them, and trying these things, and you'll get some really cool effects.

Petskull: yup, this is openGL. I just started with it recently so I haven't tried anything 3D, but we should be getting to that soon, I think. My professor is sort of spending too much time (IMO) on assignments related to Glut's functionality, which personally I think is something we should just be looking up ourselves; I'm more interested in the math behind it all. But it's getting better. =)

Thats pretty damn cool. Am interested in learning some openGL stuff at some point, busy with other crap lately. Would be cool to see some type of plugin that allowed Js to use OpenGL libraries, heh, it'll never happen tho.

Quick question: anyone know if Java(not JS) can avail of OpenGL ? Were doin Java in college and we've been doing nothing but sucky array and hierarchy bollox which is needed ... but no fun(especially when you started learning java when it came out and left it alone for a few years.), hope we get to do something with graphics in the future.

Java3d (the 3d api of Java) can use the OpenGL and DirectX API. I've never used it myslef so I don't know how it is done, but you'll probably find some nice tutorials through Google...

Very cool, Slime. Ran like a charm for me. glut32.dll went in the c:\winnt\system32 folder and the executable went onto my desktop, no problems there.

Runs pretty fast too unless I'm pushing 40k particles and 6 or 7 masses of varying sizes. An fps counter would have been nice though. All in all, it's awesome work.
