Anyone know how to add the Encrypt command to the right-click menu in Win XP pro? I tried the method described in the link below,
http://www.petri.co.il/quickly_encrypt_files.htm ..but it seems to work only in Win2ooo pro and not XP

Any ideas? I searched but only find the Win2000 reg tweaks.

Also, where will I find the 'encrypt' exe app itself?
ps. I would prefer the edit registry method rather then installing any 3rd party tweak tools.

Cheers

I've just tried that tweak in my Windows XP Pro and I do get an Ecrypt item in the context menu, so there must be something wrong with your Windows XP...

Thanks mr.max

Did you do anythng different? Would it be too much to ask for a blow by blow account of the process you followed please..

quote:
On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:

"EncryptionContextMenu"=dword:00000001

There are 5 types types of 'value' in the registry, which one do I create?

Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

In the right panel, add a new DWORD value named "EncryptionContextMenu", and then modify its value to be 1. That should be all...

This will only work on WinXP Pro, and only if you are using NTFS filesystem.
