After watching some late night International channel, I have become quite enamored of a Korean pop artist, Kyori Lee. I managed to find ONE song of her's for download. (I assume that the local Best Buy won't have her album though I haven't checked yet.) What I'm wondering, as we have some members who live in that region of the world, is there a decent website, written in English, that would allow me to become educated about and keep up with what I'll losely call Asian music? I tried MTV Asia, but that was just American music for the most part.

Thanks!

First off, her name is Hyori. She's pretty popular these days, but her music isn't really anything special. A lot of guys just think she's really cute. Actually, her image is supposed to be "sexy", but I don't know if I'd go that far. She's cute (and I really don't care what a lot of the girls here think about "cute"--it applies here). I dunno. You tell me...

This is Hyori doing what she does best, being cute.

This is Hyori desperately trying to be sexy.

It's kind of embarrassing, actually. But hey, whatever floats your, um, boat.

As for English-language websites devoted to Asian music... hmm. As you may have guessed already, I don't follow the field very closely, so can't think of any off the top of my head. If you're looking for English language pages devoted to Hyori, Google is your friend (although I can't really understand why her name is often spelled Hyolee--am I the only one who thinks that looks retarded?). If you're looking for sites devoted to Korean pop, again, Google is your friend (www.kpopmusic.com looks very promising).

As for just "Asian music" in general, you may find a few sites, but definitely not as many Kpop, Jpop, Canto-pop, etc. sites. That's because, while "Asian music" may sound like a legitimate genre, it's really just as legitimate as "European music."

Again, I'm not really into Kpop or any other form of Asian pop at the moment. I used to be, but I find myself too busy to really try to keep up with music these days. Anyway, play around with Google and I'm sure you'll find something (that kpopmusic link I posted above, though, looks like a good place to start for Korean music).

[Edit: Changed pics to links.]
