For about a week not I've had some rather agressive pop-ups on my computer that are begginning to bug the absolute fuck out of me. About every two to three minutes, I get a horde of pop-ups that take me about 20 seconds to close down. I ran ad-aware, but couldn't find anything. What else, short of reformatting, should I do? |

Try getting rid of them with Spybot. Get that program. |

Under tools in Spybot click on Hosts to append your hosts file - That will block a lot of pop-ups. |

Have you tried a browser with built in popup blocking? I don't get popups when using mozilla, mozilla firebird or opera. |

You can also try using Ctrl+Alt+Del and taking a look at the active processes. I've found a few that way and then done some research online to see where they came from. |

I have tried but don't really recommend the hosts file trick. Using good ad and syware (ad-aware and spybot) plus a good popup blocker (google) is for me a much better solution. The hosts file makes ads served from a list of domains turn around to your loopback IP (127.0.0.1) The problem with this is that all your ads will load as a page not found error which seemed to me to cause a performance issue. |
