I mentioned the problems of deep linking a while ago:
http://www.ozoneasylum.com/Archives/Archive-000002/HTML/20021004-1-005119.html

but it still seems to be an issue with some corporate lawyers (including those at Apple). There is a good article here:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/online/story/0,3605,1103886,00.html

basically if you get a legal letter take the link down and then make one hell of a fuss - we can't let them win this one!!

When it comes to laws and liars - oops, sorry, lawyers - I love my country.
There, we don't live with a constant fear of being sued by someone, for some stupid reason, trying to take our money out of nothing.
Here in the USA, you sell coffee, hot coffee, than a stupid old woman drops it over her legs, it's hot, and she sues the maker of the coffee (McDonalds). And she wins. And she wins a lot of money.
Go to hell! If she is stupid, she deserves nothing.
If people wanna smoke, smoke till you die. Why sue the cigar company? If no one smoked, there would be no cigar companies.
If people wanna eat, eat till you get fat, ugly and die earlier. Why sue the food companies?
I see so many stupidities in this country, when it comes to laws and lawyers, this culture of sue-for-anything, sue-for-everything.
Everybody knows that Michael Jackson loves small children, but even so some mothers let their children be Michael Jackson's friend. Why? Probably because they want him to harass the child and then the mother can sue him and get a lot of money.

I love my culture, I love my country.

It's ridiculous, a child of the union of ignorance and greed. I completely agree with the analogy to academic referencing, especially since I'm very familiar with that. It would be like me writing a paper and in the footnotes only providing the name of the journal a certain paper appeared in--without providing the name of the paper, the author, or the page on which it can be found. I know there are differences between the two, but it's just one case is just as ridiculous as the other.

I try to be optimistic. I try to tell myself that common sense will win out. But look at the world around us--do you see common sense winning out on a daily basis? I don't.

The resulting furore would almost certainly reverse the policy and also, more importantly, eventually help create a climate where we treat ultra-cautious, over-restrictive advice from legal firms and quasi- official trade bodies with the disdain and derision that it rightly deserves.

Common sense is mostly seen in ordinary people, common people, like you and me. By the way, we are the majority. So, common sense is all around.
Unfortunately, the people that rule the world are not ordinary, in a sense that to get where they got, they had to leave common sense behind.
