What about contacting the admins of other web design forums and seeing if they will post stickys in their main areas, or at the very least just going and posting the basic message and link ourselves?

Just a thought.

Skarjj: Your link is missng an 'e' on justice.

*shudder* since emps wrote his previous message, the justice 4 pat's page rank has dropped right down...we're now at number 220.

That happens with new sites - they bob up and down a bit until settling at a provisional position. I'll consider a 'if you link to use we'll link to you page' but people droping links in here will do the same thing so...........

Since we're pointing out typos, fact #3 on justice4pat.com is missing an E in "enforcement" ...

Wow. Just plain...wow. I haven't seen Shizzam post in the threads...I believe she is a lawyer, right? Would be interesting to see how the law actually sees this case.

Pugzly, I feel for you, man.

I just can't help feeling...a little uneasy, about what exactly is happening...it would seem to me, that this sheriff's office is doing a bit of abuse of authority here...however, I am not a lawyer, and that is my opinion. It really looks like they threws everything they could find in the book at Pugs here...a common police tactic (at least it has been, in my experiences).

Good going with the website, and the donation thing everyone.

I've got a couple questions about this situation that I've gotten from a lot of my friends when I pass on the link:

1.) 300 grand seems a bit exorbitant to me. How the hell could he afford that on his own?

2.) Did he ever just offer to give them the files, let them worry about the hosting, and walk away from the deal?

I have also wondered about question2.

My opinion about "1" is that he's computing not only real money spent in the 2-year long journey, but also his own work, hours of labor, coding, setup, etc. Still, 300k seems to me to be way too much, but I'm not an expert on this subject.

About "2", the one thing I'm pretty sure I'd have done is to _not_ hold the domain name in my name, but give it freely to the sheriff's office. Today, a domain name is worth almost nothing, no one would be interested in that domain but the sheriff's office, and the idea of maintaining the ownership of such domain means too much trouble, difficult to explain, and no gain.

That's my worthless opinion on the matter.

krets:

1. Has come up a lot (also see the discussion in the GN) and we are seeking a way to properly word this but I haven't heard back from the lawyer on this. It is crucial to explaining what has happened but may also be a core part of the court case so we have to be very careful what we say.

2. I'm seeking clariication on this - we are hoping to create a timeline that breaks this all down but again it is tricky and may take a bit of time to get together.

I just got caught up on this issue... I am flabbergasted, to say the least. Pugzly, you and your family have my thoughts and prayers, I will gladly donate a few of my scanty dollars to this worthy cause, next paycheck. I can't give much, but hopefully everyone's small donations will all add up to what you need.

I am saddened and disgusted at such an obvious attempt to take advantage of your skills and generosity - public office or not. Try as I might, I can't think of anything you might have done differently to avoid the situation. I can only add my hopes that proper justice prevails, and that you will win your case and your freedom. This will definitely set a precedent for web design services...

It's hard for me to give a true opinion when I don't know all the facts from both sides.
That only comes through the discovery process and when taking depositions which includes the evidence being laid out. I've had the same questions come up that krets has. I also have a few of my own. I'm sure the attorney handling his case has covered them all. Of course knowing the party involved I feel he's a very honest man and I truly believe him to be innocent of these charges. Now he just has to prove it in a court of law. It's cases like this I find to be a true waste of the courts time and resources. At this point, from what I know, this clearly looks like they let things go knowing that so far he hadn't taken the site down but when he finally did, they felt backed to a wall and used their legal standing and smacked him with all they had.

Sad...VERY VERY sad.

Hey Pugz, I just got caught up on the whole issue and finally finished all the relevant web docs, and I can't believe this is happening to you.

What's most surprising is that they chose to press CRIMINAL charges. Totally blows my mind.

I am having some family troubles at the moment but I hope to help as soon as I can.

Fight the good fight my friend, and even though I'm just a name on your screen I'm behind you all the way.

Our pagerank has now settled, and we are slowly rising in the ranks. 69 and rising for the Justice4Pat.com site under the search term 'pat richard'

Oh, and I've spotted even more blogs and sites that are picking us up and writing about us (mostly in a good way). So we are achieving what we wanted, we are actually managing to get the word out there and we are getting the message accross. It is spreading. Good going people.
