Topic awaiting preservation: location.replace / counter

In trying to veer from the annoying backbutton loop that arises on a redirect, i'm using location.replace in my script. The counter on the redirect is killed, however, a feature I want to keep for stats.

I'm looking for a way to keep the counter alive, steer clear from the loop, and successfully and automatically redirect to another page.

Any suggestions?

before redirecting, you could check what the referrer url is, maybe.
that's just off the top of my head.
or look thru the history...
