Topic awaiting preservation: Manipulate Free guestbooks

Ok, I know some of you are going to freak out if I ask this question, but I do it anyway.

For the moment I'm designing a website but I haven't got any knowledge about cgi, php, asp or any other server side programs. In one of my older sites I've got one of those free guestbooks from the internet like guestbookdepot . The only thing I hate is the ad on top.

Now comes my tricky question. Is it possible to remove the ad on top by capturing an entire html page in one string variable, remove the ad code and generate it dynamically? How do I do this? I'm pretty sure this isn't allowed, but this is for pure training purposes .

Hmm, seems a bit insane. What I would suggest instead is, if you have the ability to execute a script in a page, you can easily remove the ad from the page. If you don't, then you can open the page in an invisible (0-width) frame, and when it loads, you could remove the ad from the remote frame - oooh, no, wait, you couldn't, since it's on a different domain. Shoot.

Your best bet is to find a place on the guestbook where you're able to execute a small piece of code.

Sam: If you have access to server-side scripting then I would recommend you use this as the excuse to start playing with server-side scripting - a lot of people put it of until they have something they need to do something to their site .

Otherwise shop around for another one - look at bravenet for example.
