I need help with a text scrolling script! Here is the place in which I have been working with the script: [Bare in mind that geocities does not allow direct linking..you'll have to copy the address into your address bar] http://www.geocities.com/psychotoddywoddy/tremourindex.html

I found this script at: http://www20.brinkster.com/viewsrc/

Here are the problems I have been having:

The text won't scroll, and the scroll bar doesn't move -
Some of the text is cut off -
I can't make the body of the content any larger in height -
I can't make the body of the content any larger in width -

I really need some help. Can someone please tell me what I am doing incorrectly? Am I not touching certain positioning functions? What am I doing wrong? Someone please help me.

Ay, that site seems strangle familar... Ahh, I know, the old www.breedart.org site... I guess your a fan than eh?... Be carefully copying a popular site like that so cloesly though, people are likely to claim you stile their ideas. But each to their own.

Anyways, you could try asking at the place where you got the script from. A script like that is fairly complex and I doubt you'll find anyone willing to dive in and fix it for you as it would take quite some time to read through and track down where you've gone wrong. The guy who wrote that script hangs out at www.dhtmlcentral.com so maybe asking at the fourms over there will garner better results. Or you could try emailing him with you questions. He put his email in the script coments: rod@dhtmlcentral.com

Actually, I showed the layout off on deviantart.com. I copyrighted the whole thing to zkreso, and the breedart.org layout. It is a layout created for practising. I am practising webgraphics and dhtml. I'm not going to use this layout for anything...that's why it is on my geocities account, rather than my domain. It's not going anywhere. However, I do want to know how to work with that scroll bar technique so that in later projects, I can use the knowledge to my advantage.

As for the script, it can't be too complicated...I've worked with these scripts before, and they are usually easy to work. I am probably messing up with the absolute positioning. It can't be anything too deep. I'm sure someone else here might be able to answer the question. The script is relatively small as well. I think the cause of all these problems on the layout is with one factor of the script.

Can't be too complicated? I've written one myself and I'd dread to poke around the code for my own scroller that someone else had screwed up let alonne someone elses code and problems...

Maybe you could try setting up the script in a blank page with some misc. text in it, then once you've got it working at the most simple level you can start making size and position adjustments one by one checking it each time to make sure it still works. Then when you've finally got what you want (position and size or scroller) in the blank HTML page you can copy it across into your actual site.

If all else fails you could try using mine: http://www.whatever.net.au/~cameron/files/scripts/scroller2-2/scroller.html

It's quite customisable but I can't garuntee that it'll work on all browsers. I can't rightly remember what version of it I last put online. You could also try Doc's scrollers, his come with handy installation instructions cause he's way more organised than I'll ever be: www.znippets.com

Good luck.

I always find it interesting when someone has no idea how to do something...and yet claims that it will be simple for someone else to do it for them.....

I always find it interesting when someone says something like this regarding dhtml:

Well, first off, I was prepared to manually fix the problem myself with a bit of direction. I never wanted any of you to jump into my little geocities account and fix the problem for me. I have worked with textscrolling scripts before, the only difference between the scripts that I have worked with, and the one I am working with now is that the one that I am working with now has a scroll bar attached to it. So therefore, I only assumed that the scroll bar script would be just like all of the other scripts I have worked with. Ok, so maybe I am wrong, but I don't think it's fair for any of you to assume that I want you to do the work for me. What fun is that? Maybe I should quote myself as all of you have done so graciously in your last posts:

I am practising.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough on the post, but hey, hopefully I'm being straight forward now, and I'm sure all of you get the picture.

Emperor - Thank you.

I'm not in the habbit of quoting myself but...

Ya know, just incase you missed that part the first time around.
