I figured this would be the best area for this considering it is Adobe.

I have a client who insists on publishing a brochure style circular over the web (scaleable). This comes to me in the form of a PDF document. The PDF itself is 450kB in file size, and the client is whining that it takes too long to load. I told him that PDF is the only means to publish this document over the web in a scaleable format.

Does anyone have any pointers for curbing this issue? Any help is appreciated...

You could try to down sample it with Distiller at 72 dpi for screen...to make the PDF file size smaller. Iit might be set up for print which would be a higher res = bigger file size?

Try these also. http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/29772.htm http://www.pdfzone.com/resources/tips_techniques/index.html

yes yes, if you have acrobat you can surely (most likely anyway) get the size down using distiller. If you do not have acrobat, you're screwed =D or contact me and I can run it through for you if you like.

Is it predominatnly vector or raster stuff? I bet at that size it's got some largish photography included?

And Distiller was the tool of choice! Thanks guys, I managed to get the size to half what it was. It is now a more acceptable wait. And yes JK, LOTS of raster graphics.

Thank you SO MUCH!

You could also still just break up the file into smaller sections -- if the flow of data allows for this.
Just link to the the next section(s) within the each document itself.

Don't forget, PDF files can still "act" like regular Web pages too. They can even be embedded into iFrames if you like.
