I want to make dynamic buttons... like things that appear and disappear... you know what I mean.

Is photoshop the tool to use for that? And if so, how do you do it?

Holy damn I love the song 'Ache,' (btw it's the only one I've listened too so far, my cables down so I'm on 28.8 right now). If I like the rest of em I may go buy that CD. It's a wonder that bands like these don't get exposure and Timberlake does.

Anyways, I'd suggest reading some books on web design. Right now your webpage looks, and I'll be blunt, really bad. I almost had to force myself to navigate it. Well, it's not that bad, but you know what I mean. If this is going to be your first attempt at 'dynamic buttons' then I'll have to say that the result will make the page look extremely unnatractive and very 'amateurish.'

Anyways, if you insist, WebMonkey should have a tutorial on it, but I'd suggest reading up on good webdesign first.

Hope this helps some.

I don't think your webbpage is THAT bad...there problems with it and it could better but your question was about buttons so I'll stick to that. Photoshop is the best program to create and work with pixelbased graphics but if you want a program that will help you to create the kind of buttons you describe I'd say that Fireworks from Macromedia is a good choice. It isn't as powerful as Photoshop but it has some nice tools to create roll-over buttons.

But perhaps it isn't what program you use. At the end you need to understand how roll-over buttons works so maybe a book on javascript would come in handy.

Ok I was talking about those buttons to have link exchanges with. I know how mouseover works etc... But it has to move by itself not when you mouseover it.

About my site really bad... if you could post in the site review section (I have a post there) what you hate so much about it, it would be really cool. I'm not claming it's a super site, but forcing yourself to browse it.... oh well. It's my 3th site ever, I just know some basic html and basic css, and haven't mastered photoshop.... at leaste I allready work in notepad I guess

I won't make dynamic buttons for my site yet, it's the reason I don't have a header too... I just suck with it.... And yeah with 28k it must be hard having a different background on each page I guess...

Do you have an example you could point to for this?

Are you talking about animated buttons like this?

Give us an example if you could because I'm kind of lost as to exactly what you want.

That's just an animated gif made with Adobe ImageReady or some similar program. Do a Google search on "how to make animated buttons" or something like that and you'll probably come up with tons of resources.

It?s not horrible. I?ll retract that, and I?ll admit that I exaggerated. I exaggerate a lot, mostly to make a point: The site, well, it doesn?t look that good. It could be better. But, I?ll start on some crits, since I don?t feel like posting in your site-review section:

1. This may be a personal opinion, but you could do a lot more with that main picture than feather it. Feathering a picture like that to me just plain old looks bad. Why not enlarge the picture and have it flow off the page, all angry like and ?in your face,? and have the link running up his arm. Something, I dunno. By bad I mean mundane I think. Mediocre and mundane. My websites don?t look any better, so this may be fairly hypocritical, but I?m ok with that.
2. The layout. Some people are a fan of the little tiny box in the screen, but you should really try and take advantage of the whole screen, and take advantage of things such as color and placement of shapes and focal point etcetera.
3. That checker-boarded border around the box is bugging me.

Those are my crits. Hope the aren?t too harsh, and sorry for exaggerating before.

Milio: I think the best thing to do is to brush up on your general animated gif skills and then apply them to buttons (it requires a bit more talent to make a good button but it is getting the animated skills right that is important) and I can't think of a better place to start than mahjqa's fire tutorial:

:FAQ: Fire

have look at the other animation tutorials in that section and you should have mor than enough to be going on with. Apply a few ideas to a button and then throw it back in here and we can critique it and go from there.

Just listening to the MP3s now - that Jesus Jones revival was well overdue.

[edit: Well OK only The Ache reminds me of that - the others are more NIN/Ministry which isn't a bad thing ]

Critics have to be hars. I asked for them. If i wanted good critics I would show it to my friends or even my parents (I am 19 years old though ). They'll always say it's cool.

About using that table, well this site lacks content, because there is no content. I've made a fansite from some www.mp3.com band who hasn't even a record label yet. How would I fill a whole page?

Enlarge the picture... well now 800 users don't have a vertical scrollbar with this size...

and that statement right there will allow you do go far! Seriously. It is about time that someone figured that out! Damn proud of ya ma boy!

As far as making the animated gifs, you can use photoshop to make the different frames and check out somewhere like Tucows for a Freeware or shareware program to put the frames together for you. Check out google and see what you fine and don't forget about the :FAQ: to find some links.

Also Gimp, open source PS Clone, makes gifs as well. Just name each layer something like this... "layer1 (500ms)" and that sets the delay. A blank frame put on (1000ms) to (2000ms) could give the appearance of an image disappearing
http://www.wingimp.org/faq.php?conid=6

I used Gimp for a while before PS. Which of course means I dont know as much about the Image Ready part of PS, which does all the animation, rollovers and gif making.

But, Gimp is a light download, can use photoshop plugin filters, and does some funky script-fu stuff... as well as decent renderings, fractals, and other intricate stuffs. It's damn good for a free program.

Is this thing on?
