I have a image, using rgb mode. I select what I want to be transparent, and cut it. Then I save it as a 16 color indexed image (gif). It's not transparent.

Do you know where in the gimp you can set color (0,0,0) to be transparent?

In gimp you may need to add a transparent layer as a background.

When you save it should prompt you to export. Select 'merge visible layers' and 'convert to indexed using default settings'. The next screen is interlaced or not, whatever floats your boat works there.

I just created a scribble saved as above and tested the resulting gif in a black background htm and it worked. Transparency saved.

When I opened it in IrfanView it replaced the transparency with white though... not sure why, but it was transparent in the htm...

Dont know if any of this helps...

Good Luck.
