I dont mind a quick stroke feel, but there is a bit too much in some part, like his left cheek. The nose looks odd as well.

Other than that, its really well done, IMO.

The lighting all looks good except for on your right (my left) cheek. The light seems to be hitting on the far-left, whereas it whould be hitting the highest points on the face (toward the right), which would be the direction that the bright light would be coming from. If there is in fact a light source there, then it looks fine, but there should still be highlights coming from the bright light on the right and other elements of the face should be illuminated by the low-light source.

The facial structure looks really good, light years beyond anything I could pull out, but some elements of the nose look off. As well, the eyes look a bit wonky - I'm not sure if they are misshapen or if they are just a bit out of perspective, but I'd suggest re-referencing them. The lighting around the right eye is really off as well: it looks like your wearing mascara, and there should be some strong lights on the right edge of the nose (left of the right eye). Also there should be things like eyelids, and the shape of the eye should be see also underneath the eye, surrounding the eye. The left eye is better, but the right eye looks a bit pasted on. The lighting on the nose has some errors too.

In case you didn't know - your skin isn't purple. Now obviously this is a painting, so you can take liberties with reality, but if thats the case, then that color should reflect in your hair. Add some of the purple into your hair, and also make the light source on your face in your hair as well. If you add that purple into your hair, I beleive that it should fix the whole hair looks odd issue, because the main issue that I can see with your hair is that the color is too weird in comparison to the rest of the image.

Also, avoid painting on a white background, it looks bad.

Other than that, though, the painting looks great.

Well, ya know,

the bacon has a few little points that might actually help out in the long run.

Such as reflective color and such, white background, and maybe even some light issues...
but I just have to say that your self portrait has done its job via emotional impact!

The feel is wonderful.
(keep in mind that this is my own view and has nothing to do with what you may have wanted to convey, or what other people may see!)

What I see is powerful.

I see vibrance of life, confusion, alarm, surprise, and even a little mastery of lifes illusions.

I personally like it.

sparks thanks, but I am also surprised to hear that kind of comment, I have always been more passioned by realism rather than emotion, its funny how my paintings end um like that heh...who knows where the road leads...I will keep practicing.

Ruski: I think that realism spawns emotion in paintings...maybe thats why?

Excuse me sir, but i beg to disagree with that remark. Realism do not necesary spawns emotion. This for example, is far from being realism, yet it is much more motional than say...this. At least IMO.

I didn't mean that realism is the only type of art that stirs emotions, but some people say that you either go for emotion or realism. Well, I think that if you start doing realism, that you'll get emotion.
