When I need color inspiration, I go to the local Sears store, to the paint section of the hardware dept. All the paint companies have these little paper strips with 3 or 4 colors each on them. You're supposed to take them home and see if they go well with your drapes and upholstry. |

Another old trick is to follow that masters, and look to nature. Find a pleasing photography of some flowers or a landscape [or gasp, go outside.] Observe the colors, use them as a guide. Another key is to limit your pallete best designs use 2 maybe 3 max colors (Hue), any more it become diffucult to balance. If you need additional color for depth or clearity choose shades (Value) of the existing hues. Look into color wheel, Artistic Color Theory, and complementary color on google. |

Trial and error for me. I just draw little boxes and fill them in with a variety of like-minded colours in Photoshop until I get a combo I like. If it looks right to me, then I go with it. |
