Topic: Div layers vs iframes (Page 1 of 1)

Which is better, if there's such a thing? I find using frames tedious, 'cos of alignment issues and the inconvenience of having to make another page from scratch just for the frame. But are there any disadvantages of using div layers compared to iframes? The last time I checked, the only difference (and only for IE 5.0; 5.5 & above no longer) was that, within a div layer you can't use the mouse scroller, but within a frame you can.

I'd say go for the <div> scroller way - the only small drawback I can see is that they aren't supported by older browsers like Netscape 4.x or Opera (don't know about Opera 6 though), but you shouldn't have any problems using them in IE and Mozilla. Iframes aren't supported by more browsers, either, so I would avoid them wherever possible. And as you said setting one CSS property is also so much easier than creating a whole new page for the iframe.

yes Divs are much easier to deal with when dealing with semi-old browsers as well, such as IE 5 and 5.5.
As IE still has trouble with margin: and padding: CSS, they have even more trouble with it when using iframes in those versions.

Also when laying absolute positioned divs over iframes sometimes causes the div to have a jagged one pixel offset at one part wherever it is positioned over the div in the newest Mozillas.
