I've been a bit on the batty side lately. If you really want to keep the background image, you could make sure that it fades out around the edges and then center it. I have to admit, though, I'm not really that enthusiastic about that background. Personally, I think you are approaching the problem the wrong way--don't think of this as print, think of this as the web. Sorry I can't be more specific at the moment, but my brain isn't really working too well today.
