According to this: [url=http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/tables.html#edef-TD]http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/tables.html#edef-TD[/url] width is deprecated, but still part of the spec. Something else strange is going on here because the validator doesn't b**ch about the table width or the next cell width. Stranger still, the WDG validator, [url=http://www.htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/validate.cgi]http://www.htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/validate.cgi[/url] does exactly the same thing. I have no clue why they're both apparently being so arbitrary about it. If you decide not to live with it, try a different DOCTYPE (it validates to HTML 4.01 Transitional just fine) or put the width declaration in a stylesheet.
