This is an odd question, I guess, but check this out: Validator Error

So, my question is, basically, what's up with that? Since when can you not use width with td? And if that's the case, why didn't it pick up the other width attribute on the other td?

This is the only table I use on my site, and I used it because I figured the form was tabular data. I don't have a problem with the table being there, but I'd like the page to validate if possible. If it means that I'm doing something wrong, that is--if I'm not, then I'll just ignore it.

According to this:
http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/tables.html#edef-TD

width is deprecated, but still part of the spec.

Something else strange is going on here because the validator doesn't b**ch about the table width or the next cell width. Stranger still, the WDG validator, http://www.htmlhelp.com/cgi-bin/validate.cgi does exactly the same thing. I have no clue why they're both apparently being so arbitrary about it.

If you decide not to live with it, try a different DOCTYPE (it validates to HTML 4.01 Transitional just fine) or put the width declaration in a stylesheet.

Yes, it is being rather arbitrary, isn't it?

If it comes down to it, I'd rather put the width declarations in my style sheet. That wouldn't be too hard, especially since I only use one table. I think I'll just whip up a few classes to style the table.

Thanks for the replies.

[Edit: OK, moved the width, etc. to my stylesheets. Problem solved.]
