Hello, I've been doing ok on the outside, passing for normal. Now someone's called me with a problem site and it turns out to be frames, which i have never done. How hard is it to change a frame-based site to a CSS and tables site? I won't be able to access the files until after I meet with them on Monday so I just need a clue if it's a piece of cake or may as well build a new site.
Also, the same site has a doorway page, then a flash intro and then frames -and they wonder why they aren't coming up in the search engines, duh! - someone took them for an expensive ride. Can I SEO the site by putting keywords on the doorway page?
Thanks guys, I've missed you, Pam

Well, it depends on exactly what you mean.

To take the code, and swap tables for frames is not an option. Frames are a way of basically breaking the browser window into several small windows. The code tells the browser, in a very frames-sepcific way, to load different pages into different areas. You'll need to compile the different sections, and determine what kind of back-end structure you want to use to glue it all together, if any...

However, as a means of rpesenting information, frames are just one more way in which you can break the page into visual sections. Any combination of HTML elements, properly styled, can be used to acheive a good visual heirarchy and presentation.

It's easy enough to take a frames based site and build a non-framed site out of it.

If you can be more specific (post a link), we can give you more specific advice.

Thanks DL, that's good enough for me. I can take the pieces out of the frames and rebuild.
What about the doorway page though. Since it is one big image, I thought I could use it as background and put some regular type on it for the search engines to pick up. Is that a good idea for SEO. I don't use doorway pages but the owners are attached to this one.
Thanks, Pam
