Topic: How do you give up ownership of your work?

OK, here's the deal. I'm volunteering at a center against rape and am currently working on a new web design for their site. Included in the package is a new logo to replace their old one (they were just using a Word clipart in their letterhead and newsletter).

Now, the logo is completed since they needed to use it on other media apart from the web site, and I was wondering, how exactly do I legally give it to them?

I'm not a web designer by trade and I was doing this as volunteer work, and I know that, since I would never come back and say 'hey, I own that', they don't have anything to worry about, but I want to do this by the book.

DangBat: Its an interesting question and I would have thought something like a letter signed by you would be sufficient. What I would recommend is that you keep the copyright but give them irrevocable (sp? - non-revocable??) right to reproduce the logo in any form. That way you could, for example, chase up people who used the logo if the centre didn't want to bother. However, in this case it probably wouldn't matter.

And well done on doing some free work for a worthy cause
