Topic: Site Review #2 Plz

Heya's again, from that last review i just have a single change i would like opinions on see if you think im on a better path here. As suggested i have also dropped frames and hopefully made good on other suggestions.

Remember its only one page so links wont work, and sorry but i havnt sorted out formatting for for opera, mozilla etc yet so it only works properly in IE, just interested in what you all think of the change in design now, thanks alot.

Well, I would certainly say that overall it is an improvement.

The load time is significantly quicker and the lack of frames helps too.

The navigation and page content, as well as the individual elements within the page have a bit better cohesion. I think the little corner 3D graphic things might be a bit too much, but then again I suppose it fits with the industry the page is for...

The one thing that isnot working at all is the top of the page. The left hand navigation need some way of connecting/tieing into the logo.

As it stands now, the logo looks more like an ad banner, and it took me a moment to realize it was actually part of the site - I literally thought it was an unrelated banner =(

So, big step in the right direction, but get that logo tied in to the rest!

Thanks DL, yeh your absolutely right about the banner, er logo :P .... Yeh im still deciding on the corner things, wanted them there to try and "round off" the content layers, didnt fit the old way and looked to sqaure i thought, but i could do the same thing and tone it down a bit. Will get to work on the logo and update that ina while, thanks again.

It doesn't work correctly on mozilla.

I am assuming this since, the main content boxes overlap the left hand navigation.

Looking at your code I have a number of ideas.

1) You should only have one element with a given id on a given page. You can have multiple elements with the same class, but only one element per page with a given ID.

2) For ease of coding it is normally easier to write you img tag as <img src="." /> as opposed to <img src="."></img> it saves a few bites.

I am looking at your content, and there is not much there to give it a place on the page. You might try looking at something along the lines of:

.content {

  margin-right: 200px /* or some other amount larger than you navigation area */

}

You would then assign you navigation to be some sort of absolute positioned element.

The two column layout would fit perfectly into a classic blue robot 2 column. http://www.bluerobot.com/

WHen I look at your CSS I see a lot of clutter in there. I think you could spend some time on that and really clean it up. I am pretty sure there is no need for all those z-index references. And most times you do not need to specify relative (even though for the future it might be a good idea, but I really don't know). I think you could most likely cut a lot of clutter out of there.

I wish I could see it correctly because it has some promise.

I would mostly have to agree with DL, especially about the banner. It also strikes me as just a tad too busy.

One minor suggestion: In the left-hand navigation, put "Client Area" on the same line. You seem to have plenty of room, and I think it would make the menu flow better as a whole (as it is, there is the slight hiccup in the spacing). Very minor, though.

-Suho: yeh it might still be a little cluttlered ill see how it turns out when i clean it up, i think most people seem to like the overall look better tho which is good. Ill fix that client area thing too.

-War: Sorry about mozilla i didnt get around to fixing it up, mozilla seems to like some things done different which i had fixed on previous css sheets but not yet this one. And yeh my css it is a bit messy i know i havnt cleaned it up, alot of stuff i dont think i even use all of it, was from a previous version...

Im not sure what you mean with using multiple ID's what exactly is the problem with that? I think i only used it for my img layer to position it where i wanted if that is what you are referring too. Thanks for that simplified tag thing <img /> does that work for alot of things?

Anyhow my only other concern is absolute elements, i was assuming it was better to have a liquid layout using relative, but i may be wrong there im only just getting into css really, i normally get what i want in IE then make it work in other browsers. Im not sure what you meant by my .content not having much to place it because it does have a fair bit, margin-right, left and top, but maybe im missing something.

Anhow regarding the asthetic design what did you think war, do you think its looking a bit better or you hate it even more ;P, curious as to what people think on this.
