u-neek: I'm only looking at it in IE/Win2k but it looks great (nice clean look and excellent code) and apart from making the gap at the top of the page smaller I can't really think of any improvements.

I have a question though - why is this required?:

quote:
html {height:100%;width:100%;margin:0px;}

Great work.

I think i need that for opera 6.0. I've added that and now it looks ok in this browser.

Have you checked the five little buttons in the header?

u-neek: Interesting - I've not yet upgraded to Op6 from Op5 but if it works..

The buttons ah - I saw them mentioned lower down but a) my German wasn't good enough and b) they got lost in the corporate design. That is a really nice touch too and well executed. I'm on a fast connection so the reload isn't noticeable but it might be worth thinking about doing it in JavaScript. It might be worth working your logo into each design (and then randomly load a different for each visit).

Ok I need to start reviewing again after being ill and sorting things out over the last week or so.

So u-neek a full review it is then , but I think the new Imac image is a bit of an advantage as it looks so good , so it makes the whole page look good but anyway....

Layout:

Nice, simple & clean. The navigation is simple so easy to find your way around if your not a web nut (like some of us in here).

Graphics: Not much graphics apart from the top images, and there nicely blend to the colours with the site, with what colour the users chooses. It's nice that the images change, yet I like it but think some of the images don't really go with pages content, but that?s me just being picky.

Browser check:

IE 6 = Fine
NS 4 = A mess compared with other browsers, or is that just my NS4
NS 6 = Fine
Opera 5 = Fine

Overall: I like it because it's well thought out and planed site, I like the colours and user options you have given as in page colours and images, which to me adds more to the experience to the users of the site. A part form NS4 problems (which hardly gets used anyway) it's fine and I have not found any problems with it.

Well done, can't think of any improvements with this site.

[Eidt just adding opera's make No.]

U-neek, "scribble" script doesn't work. I tried to add comment, but nothing happened...

Thanks mr.maX, it works correct now. You can add your comment if you want .

Darkshadow, i know the problem with NS 4, but i don't mind about it, because it's an old browser that didn't support web standards... I know that the zeldman header didn't fit with the layout of zeldman, i'll change it tomorrow.

Emperor, i thought about a javascript solution as well, but isn't it too hard to do that? (I am no javascript guru like others around here)

Thank you all.

Yeah nice job U-neek five different versions to satisfy viewer creativity.
one thing I thought of while I was there is that I'd like to see dotted horizontal borders on the cross-page boxes at the top(the ones that extend to the sides). To break up the feel of too many solid lines. It feels a little confining with all solid lines. I decided that after looking at the gold/orange version with the dotted border because it felt softer to me. That may have been because of the colors but I think it has more to do with opening the lines a little.

u-neek - its pretty simple to do. I'll dig out the thread in DHTML forum which offered a couple of variants (my DOM approach or the Doc's improved cross browser version). As you are using PHP (and are pretty good at it!!) you can use PHP to generate the external CSS file and so it is significantly easier to implement and keep updated (code if you want it). It is very easy to do.

Good luck - we'll leave the thread open and then fire it up again and we'll kick things around a bit more.

I finished my exam, so lets fire it up again.

I wrote a archive for my journal, but something looks strange. This is IE 6.0/W2k, on Mozilla and IE 5.5 everything looks fine. And can anybody tell me why i get an error when checking the referrers page for XHTML? I cannot :/.

Emperor, can you tell me how to change the layout with Javascript? I read a story at A List Apart, but i have no idea how to manage it(i need at least 5 alternate stylesheets).

u-neek: Hope it all went well. I'll have a look at the problem page tomorrow but on the stylesheet swapping:

I read the ALA article and it is rather a brute force way of doing things (I'm not sure but doesn't it involve the page reloading? You may as well go server side for that). We kicked the whole topic around here:
www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum2/HTML/001042.html

and there a two ways really:

1. The most cross-browser way (without doing it the ALA way) which the Doc fixed to be as X-browser as possible, i.e. it won't support NS4.x. There is even an example of how it works provided by the Doc (nice example too).

2. The DOM way which I presented. Its much neater code but is less cross-browser - IE and recent NS6 (I know it didn't work in NS6.0 but it should in later varieties).

Either one will do - the first relies on switching on one stylsheet while disabling the others the second switches the source of the stylesheet. Pick whichever one you like.

Slightly further down the list I outline how to make this all much simpler to maintain and upgrade by only using one stylesheet which is generated externally. This will work with either script again.

Its all pretty straightforward for someone with your coding skills but I might not have explained things properly so feel free to ask questions if something isn't clear.

About the strange looking page for your journal, does it fix itself when you hit the reload? It does for me. You may want to check out this article. There seems to be a nasty CSS bug with IE6.

I've updated the page. The style switches now with Jacascript using the ALA method. But it doesn't work in opera 6.0.

I like the different 'skins' or whatever you would like to call them.. themes
maybe make the color buttons a little lighter so when you mouse over them they fade in a little more obviously? *shrug* looks good to me either way
