Well, finally my second version is online with a lot of content and there will be more. I might change the layout a bit here and there, but I like how it came out.

So, what do you think? URL: http://www.artgfx.net

P.S. I changed my name into artgfx, but you guys can still call me CryoniX. Anyway I am back

Ooo I like!

I love the beautiful, simple design.

Its extrmely easy to navigate around in.

Everything is laid out nice and orderly throughout the site.

A few things I dislike about the site is the scroll bars you've choosen. They don't fit the overal design imo. I think you could pick something a bit better. You could also add a bit more color to the website.

All in all, great site.

CryoniX: You can call yourself whatever you want (within reason). That is certainly a good looking site and you have used those greys very nicely indeed (and the red highlights work well). Some thoughts (only tested on IE5/Win2k so feel free to dive in with any other browser tests):

1. Sections of the text are just text but some of it is graphics (recent submissions, etc.) and I'm not sure why - it looks a little odd and it feels like there should be a scheme to it but not one I've discovered. Youo should try for as much actual text as possible (for the sake of search engines and the like - and browsers for blind people).

2. There does seem like quite a bit of space at the top of the screen (in 800x600) but in this case it seems to work nicely - I just thought I'd better mention it.

3. The curves in the central bit of the top and bottom graphics look just a little jaggy - perhaps a more graphically minded inmate would cast their eye over that and see what they think.

4. The bottom right links are nicely done but they might benefit from a touch of glow when you mouseover.

5. That news section is actually an IFRAME. Its done so subtely I hadn't even noticed it was there (perhaps the scroll bar needs to be more prominent) and I see no reason for it - you would be better off using something like the zscrollbar for this kind of effect or overflow: auto if you don't mind it not working cross-browser.

6. You would benefit from extracting your current styles to an external file and adding more - it'll help simplify your code (which is all scrunched up and difficult to read by the way).

Overall the site looks good and works well. You have some good content and I think we all look forward to seeing more of the things you are going to put there. I would look into CSS and trying something other than that iframe but they are minor niggles. Well done.

PS - I seem to be remembering to remind people to put themselves on the Asylum webring this week so give that some thought.

Just to add a couple of things.

The horizontal line under the title stuff: "Recent Submissions" etc... Seems a little strange. I think that it would benefit more if you put the horizontal lines under the titles.

The text at the bottom of the page is a little hard to read but the effect is great.

I like the site a lot. It is very slick. And yes the jaggies....

Thanks for the quick responses.

Uhm, where do I start!? Well, About the jaggies, I will try and fix it.

I was thinking of changing the text on the pictures like recent submission and all those other pics into 'real' text I guess its better to use actuall text then a picture and you also seem to think that.

I do use CSS, but I use Dreamweaver so my code gets all messed up by that program, you wont even noticed it in that pile of code . I should use notepad or something like that, I know...

Uhmm about the iframe, I use a dhtml scrollbar from ghtml.com and it uses layers. Because my site is centered I can't just put it on the main page, so I have to use a iframe or is there another way?

I dont know exactly what you mean with a external file with the styles, but do you mean something like a main page with only the layout which includes the content? Cause I use that I have a file called index.php which has the layout and it includes all the other pages.

CPrompt - the lines are under the titles :S or am I looking at something else!?

Jestah - what scrollbars are you refering to? the normal scrollbars or the dhtml scrollbar?

Oooppsss... Sorry I had a logical error there. I meant that I think that it would look better if the title was under the horizontal line. That way it is sectioned off a little more. It just seems a little strange to me for some reason. Then again I could just be in one of my moods.

I like the site though Good work there.

I agree that it looks good,
however it is very straining on the eyes to me. Maybe my eyes are getting old, but the grey on lighter grey is hard to read. This is especially true for the aliased text in the pictures. I think it would give me a headache to look at this page for very long, so I probably would leave it pretty quickly...

Uh oh... I think I just messed up your guestlog a little. I pressed "transmit" without having entered anything, and the emtpy comments were added. Maybe you should add somethign to prevent this?

I do like the structure of the site though

I changed the color of the text a bit. I also changed the gif files in actuall files and I think I am going to create a flash header with some colors and an animation.

CryoniX: That makes the text much more coherent. A Flash title graphic could be interesting (although it will be annoying for people without the latest plugin as they will keep getting the upgrade message).

Very sweet design man. It's simple yet complex at the smae time. Everything is visable and easy to see and it looks good on any screen resolution. Especially good on 1024x768. I don't really know how to classify this except trendwhore or clean. Very nice job man. I love how everything is displayed so nicly.

Thanks for the comments, hmm I dont know if its a good thing to be called a trendwhore, but I would rather see it as a clean, simplistic layout. Anyway I got a message that there is a scrollbar in Netscape in the iframe, it shouldn't be there, so is there a way of removing the scrollbar in Netscape?
