Guys, I need a favour from you all, could you please test my HTML Editor (in the widgets section).
I need to know what bugs there are, any suggestions you may have, etc...

ALL critisism welcome.

Many Thanks,

Paul

pwhitrow: It looks very good and I've used worse in the past!! Some thoughts:

1. Make the tags XHTML compliant.

2. Its too wide in 800x600 - the select all button is just off the edge of the screen.

3. Something to add metatags (if it isn't off the right of the screen)?

4. If it is possible when I insert a tag (say h2) I'd like the focus to be in the middle of them - instead the focus appears to be lost.

5. I'm not sure who it is aimed at. As a display of your DHTML skills (which may be enough) it is very impressive indeed I just wonder who would use it? It has a good set of features but I think most people might want more control when say inserting a table (cellpadding, cellspacing, etc.). Or, e.g., the ability to drop more LI tags into a list or in the font choice there is no Arial or TNR. This is possibly splitting hairs on such an impressive work but..

6. When inserting a table as you drag the cursor down to select the number of rows all the cells look selected to the right of where you want them - it inserts the correct code the highlighting is just a little disconcerting.

Overall it is all very impressive indeed and another great example of your work.

Emps: Dude you are sooooooo picky..!!!!
The editor was based on an application that I use for web page creation called Edit+. This is basically a raw text editor with enhanced features. I got fed up with work mates asking me to forward the Edit+ setup file, so decided to emulate the app online so that anyone could use it.
Strictly speaking, it is aimed at the raw coder, I HATE WYSIWYG editors, but some features need to be included.
It is a work in progress, and by no means complete....as you can tell..
Some good points raised, will get onto it.

Thanks mate,

Paul

pwhitrow: Picky? Probably - I prefer thorough!! And if it works for people then that is the important thing. By doing it in JS if someone really wants a feature then they can root around the code and do it themselves (I know I had fun changing WebFX's CoolEdit so that it added superscript and subscript). My main quibble was that the buttons should float somehow so it doesn't really matter what screen resolution you used.

I found a bug...
Click 'new document' icon
Highlight what's in the title tags 'New Document'.
Click the Bold icon.
Without un-highlighting, click the Underline icon.
Without un-highlighting, click the Italics icon.
Without un-highlighting, click the Font icon.

Uh....trouble.
