Hello all!
I was wondering if someone could either explain to me how the clip property works or if anyone has any good links that could help me. Thanks.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/reference/properties/clip.asp http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-CSS2/visufx.html#overflow-clipping

I've never used it, and from what I'm reading, I don't find it particularly useful either, but I'm sure it is

Hi eSoTIX, welcome!

For things like that, www.w3schools.com is always a good help:

quote:
from http://www.w3schools.com/css/pr_pos_clip.asp:

The clip property sets the shape of an element.

What happens if an image is larger than the element it goes inside? - The "clip" property lets you specify the dimensions of an element that should be visible, and the element is clipped into this shape, and displayed.

They don't really say anything you couldn't have gathered from the page at microsoft.com Jeni posted, I just wanted to point you to w3schools.

Ohhhhh I see.
Good example.
I still don't see myself using it, but that's just cause I don't write javascript.

for example, one of those text scrollboxes with a JS-manufactured scrollbar- the text and stuff is on the layer, but you hide it until it's in the lil' box... big layer->lil box you can see into...
