Classic films and movies from the first half of the 20th century, any more recommendations?

Stella Maris (1918)
Mary Pickford is phenomenal.

Modern Times (1936)
Social protest film, Charlie Chaplin's final stand.

Citizen Kane (1941)
Even if you hate it, you cannot deny it's importance.

Notorious (1946)
Classic Hitchcockian post-war psychological suspense/thriller.

Third Man, The (1949)
Stunning cinematography, twisting plot, and unforgettable zither score.

Sunset Blvd. (1950)
Wilder's classic valentine to Hollywood.

All About Eve (1950)
One of the best films ever written and among my all-time favorites.

Almost the first half, 1954, I recommend Seven Samurai.

off the top of my head

King Kong - '33
Tarzan and His Mate - '34

or, if (judging from your titles) you're looking for some sociological(?) impact, try

The Snakepit - '47
A woman's descent into insanity and eventual recovery in a state mental hospital.

correction: The Snakepit was in '48

Exceptional!

I am familiar with some of Akira Kurosawa's works - Rashomon (1951), Ikiru (1956)

Perfect, though I can not seem to find any additional information.

The Snake Pit
Just read a bunch of reviews for this. All Praise Google!
My mother-in-law said that she saw just the other day on some movie channel.
I'll be keeping a look out for it.
