What is everyone's preferred code editor for PHP? And if so, why?

Weaverslave. Comfortable to use, good highlight
syntaxing and works fine with a local installed
apache/php server ;-)
And yes....it has a good preview of the site too.

Notepad or HTML Beauty although TP's editor seems to offer the trimmed down kind of functionality I'm looking for:

As a newbbie to PHP, I like Max Beauty or Home Site and maybe PHP edit, but TP editor seems to be made just for me!

But still not used to make a complete site, for that, Max Beauty Rocks

I've been using UltraEdit for a while now as my default text editor, syntax highlighting for many languages, save to and from ftp which I like.

Totally personal choice but something to check out.

I use Textpad exlusively for any and all web coding scenarios, including PHP.

Great syntax highlighting for whatever language you care to use with editable syntax files and all kinds of user submitted downloadable add-ons.

It's a beatiful thing.

HTML Beauty I certainly can't say anything bad about, but it's mroe than I need, and I work better in a 'minimalist' setup.

Tried to download TP's to test it out, but had a problem gettting the file (I'll try again later TP).

well thank you everyone.

I myself have been using Scite, great open source editor with all kinds of features,
but am switching to my own brewed one just now. (And hey, it's still based on Scintilla,
the same editing component that Scite uses :-)

-Search

I use EditPlus 2 for all of my coding work, but I've been looking for something else lately.

It seems as if Edit Plus had been adandoned by it's developers and their not making any more updates to it been waiting over a year now!), which is a pitty as I was really looking forward to XML support, XHTML tool bars and a bunch of other things. I've tried almost every text editor out their but this one seem to suit the way I work so well...

Actually no I lie, I've heard a bunch of people saying good things about a very versitle text editor written in java, haven't looked at that one yet.

Arr well, maybe it's time I went back to textpad.

I havent looked at your coder yet TP, downloading it now

Started using Emacs a couple of weeks ago and it's great. Got built in syntax highlightnig for most languages (php, html, perl, c/c++ etc) and it is easy to use. The only 'problem' is that you have to install Linux to use it

that's not true Veneficuz, I know there is a windows version of emacs ('cause I've used it once for a while).

As for being easy to use... well, that depends. Speaking Lisp certainly helps.

For the last three years I've used Homesite almost exclusively, why?
Well quite simply 'cause I'm used to it an know my way around it, I also like the color coding. I've tried HTML Beauty and while it's quite similar and very good I still feel more at home with homesite. I've tried some of the more dedicated php IDE's but never came to terms with them.

I like how the PHPscilla is coming along though, it's a different approach that feels fresh.

Is HomeSite good with PHP coding, in terms of leaving the code unmolested? I'm used to working in the Dreamweaver UltraDev environment (with ASP)... but hate how it interferes with what I write (even if not so much).

The Textpad editor looks pretty good from giving it a test drive yesterday.

editplus is just the best for everything. I think I had to download something for the php syntax highlighting, I can't quite remember, but anyways editplus is the best, for anything, ever.

Homesite (or HTML beauty for that matter) doesn't touch the code you write unless you ask it to by using codesweeper or similar. It's a text editor with a lot of functions like project management snippets color coding, stuff like that. It's NOT a wysiwyg that generates code for you. You write...
