AFI.com has published their list of the "100 Greatest Movie Quotes".

I'm not sure I necessarily agree with the order, but it's a fun read!

http://www.afi.com/tvevents/100years/quotes.aspx#list

And when you're bored with the quotes you can proceed to the "100 Greatest Movie Villains and Heros" and a few other lists.

Hey thats pretty funny, though a big movie fan there were a couple of unfamiliar ones there too!

hmmmmm, wondering if there are any more to add to the list!?!!? / or do *you* have any personal favourites???

I laughed at both "Field of Dreams", and "Dirty Dancing" being in there - but guess they're quite recognisable... or is that just a girrrrrrly thing!!!

Hmmmmm,.

What!? how did National Lampoons Animal House get in there? Why was Wizard of Oz in there three times!? What makes a Great Movie quote, the people that wrote taht list just don't know

for example where was...

'It's a trick, get an axe',
'Groovy',
'Son of a bitch must pay',
'Yes sir the check is in the mail',
'It's all in the reflexes'

And that's only 2 films! oh wait...

'do you expect me to talk? No Mr Bond, I expect you to die',
'Then I'll see you in hell, hiyaaa!',
'Why me... Why Me!'

Do films dubbed for censorship count? anyone ever seen the British Robocop version they showed before the Watershed? classic, can't think right now of the good quotes.

It's sad to see that "I am the king of the world" (worst quote ever) is in the list (100th)...

And my favorite quote isn't in.

Batty in Blade Runner :

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

We really don't have the same tastes

Yea, I saw most of that the other night on TV. It didn't take long to realize that it wasn't necessarily the "best" movie quotes, but the ones that were most memorable, which they did end up with most of them I think.
Obviously, well, maybe obviously, most people are going to think that the "best" movie quotes are in the more obscure movies and independent films, except of course for those people that don't watch, or like, independent films. Off hand, I can't think of a single movie on that list that was an independent or that I would consider obscure. Maybe they weren't all huge blockbusters (which is really the only reason I can think of why "I'm king of the world" made it... 'Oh, that was a huge movie, it needs to be on the list, and there was that one line that everyone made fun of and parodied for the next 5 years...' ... which goes back to: What constitutes a great movie quote?), but I think just about all of them were major studio productions... Of course as soon as I say that, someone's actually gonna go through the list and name a few I forgot...

I can honestly say I've never heard anyone call 'Field of Dreams' a girly movie.
