Totally awesome to see this working. Ever seen Tom cruise in the otherwise forgettable movie "minority report"? Were you drooling about the multi-use computer screens? Take a look here.

Movie originally from http://mrl.nyu.edu/~jhan/ftirtouch/, but that server was quite heavily burdened when I first saw it.

Really nice mix of different techniques.
Fwiw the part where the user draws and deforms some shapes in 2D was in a proceeding of the Sigraaph ~2001

Until such a wonder hit the mass market, I'd be happy with multi-mice interface. I've wanted to plug several mice on computers for like 15 years and have never seen that. I mean having one cursor per mouse. Imagine what you could do in games, in PhotoShop, in 3D programms ... and it's certainly dead simple to do.

Actually, something of the kind might actually be coming quite shortly. Have a look at this: http://hrmpf.com/wordpress/48/new-apple-patents/

I don't really know if people would like that, really. I thik people are to lazy to move there hands all over like that. I mean it's awesome and everything, but once you get past the coolness of it, you have to think about the practicality.

Gilbert Nolander: Who needs a mouse and a keyboard anymore with a 36"x27" Multi-touchpad ? there's way enough room to put a virtual keyboard for text input. So bye bye space eating mouse + keyboard + screen(s). Imagine if you could use some sort of Nintendo Revolution controllers with that too. From a distance you use the controller, within hand range ( since anyway the NRC won't work ) you can use anything else.

We just had a thread about this not so long ago (that I can't find ATM), the future of human interface. Keyboard... bleh. If moving your hands to touch a screen is too much, typing is too much. Voice recognition... that'll ramp up how much you can do at once. This looks really cool. It could be really fun in a design environment too.

And of course the true secret to success will be whether or not you can use it one-handed.

[keanu]Woah.[/keanu]

Try watching that while on allergy medicine... that's some serious tripping...

Definitely cool stuff. But I'll probably be suffering from arthritis by the time I would get a chance to use that.

And I actually liked Minority Report... guess I'm in the (wait for it) minority...

Cool stuff!

I would hate to see the screen after a bag of doritos, though.
