I said that I had a few things to finish before I put Technical Slop online for the last time. Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to do those things. The moment that I sit down and open up my Tech-Slop stuff, I get lethargic and just can't bring myself to write those last few things. I can't even stand looking through the folders.

So, it's looking like it truly is the end of the line.
Time to find Tech Slop it's last home.

There are several veterans that I like to see volunteer to host it, but I won't drop any names. If you are a veteran and willing, send me an e-mail.

Even though Tech Slop and my PS writing days are over, I've already begun something else. Max Slop will be around pretty soon. I've set my sights on writing a bunch of Tech Slop style stuff for 3DS Max.

I just want to write - but not for Photoshop anymore - at all.

E-mail me if you are interesting in hosting Tech Slop.

Warj: Your PS Tech Slop is, has, and always will be (to me) amazing beyond description. While some might want to argue... I'm comfortable putting your exploration into ps and the results, in the same category as Kai. He did what he did. You did what you did and should anyone have the desire to push ps.... really push.... studying Warjournal and Kai is mandatory... again imo.

So on behalf of the 'rest of us'... who could only sit here and say something like 'holy fuck....what made his brain go there' .... thanks a whole big bunch. Tech slop is an indespensable resource I certainly hope it will find a good home.

Not a veteran, but I have disk space and bandwidth available.
If none of the veterans picks up the torch, drop me a note. I'd be tickled to death to host it.
I'd hate to see it just disappear.

So long,

Okay, I just googled for this tech-slop site and can't find it.

Just My luck that as soon as I find a possibly good site about PS, its being shut down.

That bites....LOL

Anyone got a link to the tech-slop? And I'll be sure to check out the max-slop thing as soon as its available.

Hey Warj, I just emailed you regarding my status with the dreamhost thing we did a few months back.

Just a heads up to look out for it since I'm using a new email address.

And don't give up on TechSlop just yet, mate. Leave it on your hard drive for a few months and I'm sure the muse will return.

For those who don't know, TechSlop was like the Photoshop "bible" to a few like myself and one helluva great resource.

Silence! Thanks for the e-mail heads-up, otherwise I would have trashed it with out so much as a second glance. I'll send a reply later today. Or maybe tomorrow depending on how things go when Woman gets home from Las Vegas.

Darkwind, don't let these folks fool you into thinking that Tech-Slop is really that great. Okay, maybe it is that great. Heh. Either way, fair warning when you finally get to read through it: your head may explode.

DB, I sent an e-mail a few days ago. I sent one yesterday, but apparently you didn't get that one, either. A few hours ago, I tried to resend the second one, but it I just got the bounce.

Something strange is going on.

I just might have to reinstall ICQ.

edit: Q installed and looking okay. I'll try to catch you on it later, DB. Or leave you a message or something.
Silence, e-mail reply sent.

WarJ, this is a bit off topic.
I seem to remember a while back you were looking for a way to convert all or part of tech slop to PDF. You may have already covered this but I found a link to free PDF making software, and I though you may be interested. I have not grabbed it myself yet, so can't vouch for anything, and at first glance the installation instructions looked a little mad

Yeah, I found a solution that I'm mostly happy with.
Going to take a lot of cut-n-paste and a lot of sleepless nights.

It's probably a little late for this suggestion, but I'll throw it in anyways.

WJ, perhaps you'd be better off starting the 3D Max stuff using some kind of weblog system. You wouldn't have to use it as a weblog per say, most of them provide quite a lot of layout control and would probably lend themselves quite well to what you want to do. Something like Movable Type is designed for people who want to publish information online without knowing all the backend crap. It also provides simple means for drafting before you publish your content, web based file uploads and well pretty much everything you'd probably want to do when it comes to online publishing.

It'd also mean your work is then saved in an XML format so you can easily convert it into a PDF book at some later stage if you so choose. I think it would certainly be better than trying to manage to mess of HTML documents, and if at some point you get bored with a subject, you can easily change everything around or simply leave things as they are and move onto something else. Seems like an ideal way to go about it, seeing as you want to focus on what you write about as opposed to maintaining markup code and the like.

Just a thought...

Cam, I started down that road.
But I'm a control freak on several levels and it just wasn't working out.
I'm not comfortable using somebody else's scripts/server/system unless I know them *very* well, and it was very time inefficient. Play with one system for awhile, get to know it, trash it. Get to know another system, trash it. Etc. It was a vicious cycle of going nowhere. Control freakiness is a mixed blessing.

But the real kicker is that I don't have PFL anymore. There was a bizarre string of heavy duty "bad karma" things and PFL went south. No more fancy server bells-n-whistles for me.

So I hacked out my own super simple system in a few short hours. With the lessons that I learned from doing Tech-Slop, I am confident that Max Slop will hold up much better down the road. That is, the content is *completely* seperate and far more flexible than Tech-Slop's content. It wouldn't take much to port over for other uses.

Bring back Drac!

I know exactly what you mean about the control freak issues. I do the same thing myself, although I'm using MT for a group blogging effort because I didn't have the time to get anything of my own up and running. It works well, but it's annoying having to learn someone elses system when I'm in the middle of building my own. At least this way I can steal the bits I like, heh.

Bring back Drac?...

Maybe. I've been thinking about this recently. People acted differently towards me when I used an odd name. Haven't decided weather this is a good or a bad things yet.

WJ: I don't think of it as controlling. I think of it as learning. Piajet said, "In order to understand something, you must re-invent it for your self." That makes a good excuse for taking control of a software package and re-writing it. I'm just re-inventing it for myself.
