InI this is very interesting...Since code baffles me, I won't even try to figure out how you did it. However, I am noticing a whole buttload of flickering going on when the images enlarge. I'm sure this is due to the image refresh as it gets larger, but it hurts!! My own opinion, use a darker background, so that this flicker does not kill the eye so much...Cool stuff!

Well, with IE6, W2K, a 32MB video card and an 850Mhz machine I get no flicker at all. I didn't mouseover any of the images at first, but once I did, wow! That was trippy.

OK, take back a bit, I still get a little flicker effect on the left edges, but that's expected. If it grew and shrunk quicker then I wouldn't be able to see that. I'd love to see some enhancements to this, maybe a bit of a control to stop it from changing for a minute, or [something else]. Cool though, great toy! (Just diggin through the code, it's only what, 20 lines? Nice stuff, elegant.)

Hope that helps resolve any problems.

Instead of just putting the new image in a pop-up window a nice touch might be swapping the source of the image from the thumbnail to the ful-size version and then growing that to its full size.

Just a thought.

WS: I suspect it will be possible to different versions depending on what you want - it should be possible to have one that expands and contracts with movements of the mousewheel or on left and right mousebutton presses or using the plus and minus keys on the keyboard (or any other key combination) you'd only really need to identify the event and use that to fire the function off (you'd have to detect some kind of focus or mouseover as well so you'd know which image was being refered to - tabindex or something else would be useful for selecting the pictures).

Lots of possibilities there - is it possible to have the expanding picture above the page so the HTML doesn't realign itself or is this causing too much work?

I think it would look better if the images only expanded in one direction, like have a load of stips either going across or downward, but I suppose then they wouldnt work as thumbnails very well , so um never mind

So I guess there's no upper limit on this thing, huh? I put my mouse over an image, went to fix lunch, and came back to discover that the original pixels had grown to be larger than my cursor. Apparently it shrinks a lot quicke than it expands, though.

Yep, cool.

Works in NS 6.2.1 (at least the newer version does). No flicker. The scrolling is a bit disorienting, though. Took me a moment to get used to.

And was there something that you wanted translated?

[Edit: the original version has a slight problem in NS 6.2.1--the text doesn't move as the image expands, so the image kind of slides underneath the text. I'm not sure if that's the way you wanted it, but that's not what happened in IE.]

The first one is really trippy though. Can it go faster? Very cool! Nice toy. Wish I could sit down and do stuff like that

Very neat, could be the new format for thumbnails here.

Just tried it in Mozilla and it works fine. I agree with C:\ that it would be nicer if a little faster but I'm nitpicking.

The only thing I do notice is that if I use my mousewheel whilst still over an image (and wanting it to expand more) it automatically starts to shrink. This happens if I move the wheel up or down.

Hope thats helped.

Kinda interesting but a bit odd, I'll go read all the posts again... I must have missed somwthing

Whoa! It's awfully fast now, isn't it? I moused over one image and before I knew what was happening, my screen was all black, just the top corner of one image, I didn't even have time to try and understand the interface! I would put a maximum size on the growth of each image, perhaps have it stop at the true resolution of the image? I tried to use the "fix image" link, but it was already shrinking by then, that was annoying. I've been thinking about this, perhaps the controls could work like this: no growing or shrinking occiurs until you 'click' on an image, and then the growth or shrinking of an image could be controlled by your mouse movements, right for bigger, left for smaller? This way the user would be more "in control" of the viewing. You may need to explain how it all works at the start, but once you understand it'd be a great way to view a portfolio.

InI: It really is looking very impressive indeed but the Doc is right - it is too fast and needs a brake on the size. As I had the mouseover it grew rapidly and while I was digesting the options it grew to such a size that everything started strobing.

This looks to be a great tool (no longer a toy!!) - keep up the good work. Let me know when you've adjusted things as the strobing made things a little too uncomfortable and I couldn't take everything in.

This is getting really nice, ini. Lots smoother, and that *out of control* feeling is not near as severe.

Once you get the hang of the controls, it`s sweet. Not real intuitive, but sweet.
Only suggestion I have, is maybe position the tool tip/bar off to left edge of the image.

Docs` mousemove suggestion would be cool, too. Total user control, and still no limits.

Very nice. I love this thing. Hope one day I can figure it out.
