Now things are finally starting to get rolling on the music school homepage I'm doing for my piano teacher, and though there are still some things missing (which you probably won't notice anyway since everything's written in German ) I believe that I'm ready to throw it into the Site Reviews forum and see what you think about it. Yes, I'm ready.

I dont have much to say, but I really like the slidey menu, its really smooth and fits the layout perfectly without looking tacky or anything.

You remember my previous comments about that yellow? Good. then I don't need to say them again.

OK, let me start off by saying: I profusely apologize for looking at your site while alcohol-impaired (I tried a few times before, but I kept getting 404s).

I will finish by saying: that yellow very nearly killed me. It may be better when I'm sober, but I doubt it.

Outside of the color, I have to say I liked the design. That menu is really nifty, too. The design has so much promise... please choose another color and fulfill the potential...

Heh, thanks for your comments - at least you all seem to agree with each other

So I'll have to do something about these shades of yellow. Unfortunately there's only one thing about the site that I can't completely change, and that's the main color - it has to be yellow because all the printed brochures have that color.

What would you suggest? Should I reduce the brightness of everything yellow? Or maybe replace the brighter yellow with a totally different color?

I'm very open for any suggestions you might have.

Hoo boy, that's a tough one. One thing you have to remember, though: that yellow on a printed brochure is going to be much less offensive than that yellow on a computer screen. The print yellow is reflecting light, but the screen yellow is emitting light--thus being harder on the eyes. I hope that makes sense.

Anyway, I personally dislike that yellow, but you say it must be part of the design... hmmm.

OK, I finally got the page to load again, and I have to say that yes, the yellow does look better when sober (when I'm sober, not the yellow--you know what I mean). Here's what I would do: 1) switch the two yellows (so that the darker yellow appears in the menu and title bars); 2) plug the darker yellow (#ffee00) into ZOX's Colour Wizard or Digital Studios' Color Schemer. Experiment with some of those colors as your background color and see what happens.

Hmm, that's really difficult. I tried some of the colors from those wizards, but it just doesn't look right if I introduce another color like orange, green or brown. What I ended up with are two darker shades of yellow (same link as above, a screencap of the old colors is here). I guess I leave it like this if nothing better comes to my and your mind...

Any other ideas?

Maybe the placement of the yellow needs to be considered. The entire site doesn't have to be Yellow does it? Maybe just "sections" of the page to be yellow along with some white.

I wouldn't introduce a bunch of colors. Besides black, white and yellow; maybe just one more if that. Make the yellow more of a *highlight* rather than the main focus of the site.

I think C:\ has hit on a good idea there. You could make the site background white and use the yellow as a highlight color. I think that would work pretty well.
