Bmud made a new portfolio. it's like an ongoing work in progress because I'm always starting new stuff right in the middle of something else. Talk about perpetual! Well please enjoy and feel free to flame and crit. This page was actually made to appease my web development final exam but I intend on revamping it over and over and over until it is worthy of fully representing my home site. Good for starters.

just real quick... you should specify a background color as not everyone's default color is white. mine happens to be grey and really kills your site

just a quick peek at your code....a doc type would be helpful as well as closing tags (for html and body)

i don't get the couch being there... but... i don't need to i guess...
and while, i like your clickables...do they really need to be THAT huge?

alas...i'm no pro, so i'll leave a more indepth review to someone else

Why are y'all avoiding Bmud? He's been sitting here, patiently waiting for over two months!

All right, here we go.

Splash page: Since this is your personal portfolio, you can to do what you want, but seriously, I still don't think you need a splash page... And what's with the "Tear here" thing? And it's in Flash, too? If that's a metaphor for something, I don't get it. Either way, that's some really unnecessary Flash...

Background: Specify, specify.

Doctype: Strongly recommend that you get one. It's (technically) not a webpage without it.

Encoding: Another must-have. Again, get one.

Buttons:
1. They're too big: Shrink 'em a little, will you?
2. There's too many: Group relevant sections together. I don't like to scroll that much.
3. They're too blurry: Seems to be a popular effect nowadays. Personally, I think they'd look better without the blur.

Code: There's not much there, actually. Everything is in the images. And you're not using any CSS at all. Couldn't hurt to learn a little...

Images: Everything's an image. And as if that wasn't bad enough, you don't have any alt text. It's not much work at all to specify alt text for images, and it makes your site navigable at least, when images are turned off.

Layout: Looks a little sparse. Besides that though, the elements on your page don't really fit together, visually. It just seems to me that you've got a lot of different styles clashing together. But it's a WIP, so I'm not gonna bitch about it (too much).

Hmm, that's about it for now. Until next time...

As has been said, you *need* to specify a doctype, encoding, and a background color.

I would highly recommend losing the splash page as well.

I also agree that you need to add alt text to your image, and perhaps see what elements can be donw with text instead.

The images that are there have a complete lack of cohesion. There is no visual or semantic relationship between, say, you headers and your icons, or your thumbnail "wrappers" and the side image...

There's nothing to hold any of the pieces together....

As far as the code - there's not much of it, but I would drop the tables. With such a simple and sparse layout, there's no need whatsoever for them.

It's hard to say much more....it just feels....lacking. And not because there's not enough there - rather because there's no connection between different parts of the page, or between pages.

I did this little demo of what CSS can do for your site.

The page uses XHTML strict, and all the images are called in using a CSS image-text replacement trick. To be honest with you, I don't recommend that you use this on the actual site, as there are some real-world accessibility issues with it, but it was just a demonstration.

Take a look at the code and you won't see any <img> tags. Everything's in the CSS.

Anyways, play around with it a bit. Maybe you'll get some ideas.

Thanks all. I know I was slacking off a lot when I started this. I forgot so much code since it's been so long. Anyways.. THANKYOU for the criticism!! I'll be sure to fix it up real nice like you all suggested. Doctypes I have never been big about but now I think I understand why they are so important. CSS: good idea. I always add it last but it's always what cleans up my sites the most. Thanks for reminding me.

ozphactor, wow. that's funky what you did with it. Very cool.
