this is my geocities site - ultra cool spot to park my rear spot.

its got photoshop, shockwave, some flash actionscript 25 liners and some photography

oh and a little smidgen of modern art ...mix it all together and you gets a very ...well take a look

Well, the site is pretty ugly with the adds and the serif fonts and all, but the lingo stuff is quite interesting. It's nice to see some more director developers around these parts. =)

Although, this is in the site reviews form and as far as markup goes, it's a bit of a mess. I realise this is partly due to the geocities hosting which you should avoid like the plauge if you can, but a properly marked up and standards compliant page along with a half way decent host might be something to aim for.

I would however like to see examples along with a lot of the scripts you provide as I think this would make the site a lot more entertaining. Maybe a setup similar to www.lingoworkshop.com would lend itself well to the nice content base you have lurking beneath those links, which I should add, are quit confusing as far as page structures go. After all, you've written the scripts, why not have some fun and show em off eh.

G that would be nice to show some examples but its just a free web space and the site doesn't allow DCR files or zips to give examples and downloads.

and BTW dracusis - whats so ugly about serif fonts . I only personally use two fonts for the internet - times roman or arial. I thought that was a basic rule of the internet?

OK, TNR is a nice typeface for print, I'll give you that. Arial just plain sucks, no matter which way you slice it. Neither of them were designed for screen reading. What you see on the screen when you use TNR or Arial are screen approximations of what you will eventually see in print.

Now, there are typefaces designed specifically for use on the screen--that is, their primary use is screen reading, they are not merely approximations of a print typeface. Two of the best known screen typefaces are Georgia and Verdana (serif and sans-serif, respectively). If you have Windows on your system, you most likely have these fonts. If you don't, you can probably find them somewhere (Microsoft unfortunately no longer offers these fonts for free download).

Rather than go through an extended discussion of why Georgia and Verdana are better than TNR and Arial, I would urge you to try them out for yourself. Replace TNR with Georgia and Arial with Verdana, and tell me if it doesn't look more readable (and nicer, to boot). If, after seeing the difference, you still think TNR and Arial are better, well, that's your choice. Personally, I prefer typefaces that were designed with screen reading in mind.

Of course, I'm not advocating a strict adherence to only Georgia and Verdana. I just brought them up as substitutes for the two notorious typefaces you mentioned. Sorry for getting all huffy up there--I tend to get worked up about little things like this. Don't mind me.

pick a font and use it, dont mix match it with the times fonts :-\ it would also look better with a dull background, like a brown or light grey
