I have a website on my town called http://www.lifeinwolves.co.uk.

I've just had an email from a guy saying how hard it is to read black text on a dark red background - but as far as I can see it shows up white in Ie and netscape - why does he see it as black - does he have an old browser do you reckon or is there another reason?

this doesnt appear to be a "browser" problem. this is more of an accessibility problem.

1. white text on black background fatigues the eyes a lot.

2. too many tone on tone colors that do not have enough contrast (red on red on red). this would be difficult for someone to see if they were color blind (most colorblindness is red/green - and mostly in men) or had dim vision.

scroll down to "special needs access": http://www.anybrowser.org/campaign/abdesign3.html
you will find some helpful articles relating to color blindness.

i see white text on a black background in the middle, with orangy-red links. along the sides, i see tone on tone orangy-red.

Ali,

Find out what browser and platform the guy is using. It might be a browser problem but it's hard to tell without knowing which one causing the problem.

Also, it is possible to override and style sheet info as a browser setting. You can even set your browser text color regardless of what your code says it should be. If he's doing that, then it is really his problem entirely.
