Topic: Future of colored scroll bars? (Page 1 of 1)

I'm playing with the "overflow: auto" property and in IE I can get the scroll bars on the divs to look really nice with the rest of the page because of the colors. Is this something I should get used to or is it just an IE thing? It sure is a nice feature!

Colored scroll bars are IE only thing. Every other web browser will show either OS specific scroll bar, or their own scroll bar (like Mozilla)...

It almost totally defeats the usefulness of the auto overflow though. Having a default scroll bar in the middle of your page can be incredibly distracting and ugly. Oh well, that's the way it goes.

But some 'little' browsers like KDE's Konqueror do support the coloured scroll-bars. Maybe there are more to come...

Bugs: Its not in the CSS3 proposed specs (as far as I'm aware) and so it will be up to individual browser makers to decide if they support it. Given their reluctance to accept someone else's ideas on this kind of thing I suspect it is unlikely that the IE way of doing things will be supported but I also wouldn't be suprised if Moz eventually produced something similar like they did with -moz-opacity (I was quite suprised by the number of Moz-specific styles there are available and a -moz-scrollbar would certainly prove popular as it has certainly taken off with IE).

I doubt that Mozilla will support colored scrollbars, because it wouldn't be very easy to modify skin images dynamically (Mozilla draws complete interface from selected skin), unless Mozilla development team implements image editing features in Mozilla...

mr.maX, by image editing features, do you mean that we might be able to specify our own graphical skins for Mozilla? That would be pretty cool.
