Is it, stictly speaking, permissable to use the bold tag in a paragraph if you want to bolden just one word but are using a completely CSS based layout?

(I'm trying to be as idealistic with this as possible.)

It's pronounced "Spikes!"

SPyX: I'd recommend you use STRONG (and EM instead of I) instead as that has meaning - style that tag.

I think it depends on why you want to bolden that word. If you want to emphasize the word, use <strong> as Emps said. If it's purely for visual effect, you may be better off wrapping it in a generic <span>, and applying the style to that.

Or not. The semantics are debatable.
