In both IE and Firebird if you use the css background attribute to give a background colour to, for example, a h2 then this doesn't show when printed. Is there a way to give the h2 a background colour without resorting to just whacking an image in there? I've tried absolutely positioning an image of the colour inside the h2, but to no avail. |

Both IE and Firebird have a setting to allow - or not allow - printing the background. I don't think there is a way to bypass this feature if the user chooses not to print the background. Even if there were, why would you not allow the user to choose what she/he wants? |

I think that might have to be the route I take but there are some complications: |

If getting the background to display is really that important, using an image may be the only solution. |
