Didn't seem to work for me... the plane doesn't move from the left hand side of the screen.

slime, I believe you didn't put in any variables for windresistance and vert accel... the plane moves after you fill those boxes in. It looks like a cool experiment you did there krets, I'll have to download the trial now.

Oh, ok, i got it... is it just me or does changing vertical acceleration not change that much?

It doesn't change that much unless you enter a fairly large number. The sine function builds on itself gradually so try entering a number around 40 or so.

Oh, and I screwed up the script once messing with it but didn't notice before I uploaded and thats probably when you caught it Slime.

All fixed now, what fuN!

I just wanted to do something simple to try out some different math functions so I used

changeY = Math.sin(changeX)*Yspeed;

Where Yspeed is the variable passed from the form.

Incidentally, what's the correct syntax for using the exp operator? I couldn't figure that one out to save my life....

I was looking to raise a variable to a certain power. Like Xspeed^5 would that work in Flash or would I just need to multiply Xspeed by itself 5 times?

Krets:
Math.exp returns a natural logarithm - a constant, "e" which people much smarter than I need to explain to you.
For your problem : Xspeed^5 , use the Math.pow(x, y);

where: x is the number and y is the power

example Math.pow(Xspeed, 5);

Give it a try. For testing just plug in easy values like 10 and 2. I use the trace function a LOT to debug. So for example, a line:

trace(Math.pow(10, 2));

should pop up a window with 100 in it.

Then change the trace to
trace(Math.pow(Xspeed, 5));

and see what comes up. Get friendly with trace(); - all manner of frustrating bugs can arise because you think something is going to happen and it doesn't. trace can show you if the variable you *think* are there really are.

I'm trying to reproduce your elastic deal but I couldn't get the drag function to work correctly to initiate it so I just stuck a button in there and used that. I forgot to take the drag function off the object though so now after I click the button and snap it into place the damn thing tries to follow my cursor around but it can't because its got that elastic thing goin on. LOL
