Yeah, it sucks, I can't figure out this interface at all. I'm not asking for reviews really, just showing off. =) I didn't feel like I had enough control over the motion of the slime...

No, it's made of glass. =)

I'm not really happy with that flash thing I made, I just put it up here for the heck of it. It was very hard to work with, difficult to do things that should have been simple. I guess the majority of the stuff I see online involves a lof of actionscript. That's coming up in the list of things to learn, as far as Flash goes.

But this isn't a priority to me, I was just fooling around, if I ever use flash for anything significant, it'll be just small effects within a real HTML/XHTML page.

Be specific! What was hard to do? If you mean it was hard to draw the shapes, yeah, I think the drawing tools are hard too. If you did it all with tweens, yeah, that's tough to figure out too. At first. Like any tool once you grasp it it gets easier. Heck - I'm a still photographer - this was the first exposre I ever had to a timeline, frames based program and it *was* hard to grasp at first.

But get into the actionscript a bit. You'll either like the way the editor is set up (set your preferences to "expert" so you can type directly into the editor window) or you'll dislike it because it's so close but just a *little* different from javascript. For me, having the editor flag errors is really nice, and being able to *see* the things you're scripting is conceptually a big help for me. It's not so abstract as coding javascript.

If there was a javascript editor that was as friendly as the actionscript editor, I'd have made lots more progress there I think.

Oh, basically, it was relatively easy to set up a motion path for the slime, but I wanted him to move with realistic speed (faster when closer) and I could only approxiate that using the "ease" control. I also wanted him to squish on every jump, but that would have required many many keyframes, it seems.

Again, I won't be doing too much with this. =)

Slime: I think real control like that is only going to come with scripting.

There was a *long* thread at were-here about scripting the "easing" effect, code by a guy named Robert Penner. It's 2 pags long, starting here. You might get a bang out of it. At last see some serious actionscript code and see how you feel about it, compared with JS.

BTW - I've seen some scripts for a sinusoidal sort of movement, but most seem to be in straight lines. Maybe you can work up something cool that gives a meandering slime some quadratic easing!!

wow. very good for a first flash-movie!

and i agree with you concerning the flash-interface. if you are used to adobe's interfaces and concepts of handling etc. then flash is kinda strange.
