Topic: rewrite cd's (Page 1 of 1)

In the near future I'm going to be burning some cd's. The 'writer' will be a microsystems 'external' set up. (don't have it yet....but probably by months end.

My initial questions:
Is there a limit on how many times you can re-write a 're-writable' cd...if so how many?

Any specif 'brand' of re-writable to AVOID AT ALL COSTS? <g>

Can 'other' burners write to the re-writable cd...as in 'add' to what's already on the cd?

Is 'Nero-burning' still considered a pretty decent bit of software?

This is going to be charity work for my mom-in-laws church. I'll be doing the voice over. (wave files)

The presentation will be done in PowerPoint... then burned to the cd. Most of the copies will be burned to a write once cd. Some she wants/would like, on re-writables...so other church groups can add to them should they so desire.

Any big problems you can see I might encounter here? They're not going to be lenghty presentations at all... in fact I think it's almost a waste of a cd... but that's what she wants.

Couple hundred times, I'd say. they don't last forever.

Data (ISO) Cds: yes, if you allowed multi session. packet cds: yes
Audio CDs: no, but you can extract the data and burn it all over again.

Consider those cute tiny 5 (8?) centimeter cds. I'm not sure what the cost anyway, but they're small and store about 200mb.

TP: Thanks... the tip on the small cd's is on the money...had completely forgotten about those.

You mentioned not being able to re-write audio ...so I'm now wondering about the background music (inspirational) mom-in-law wants. Will I have to convert that to a wave file if the orginal is on a cd audio?

This is all coming at me rather suddenly... I'd been hoping to learn about this stuff at a bit slower pace.. <bg>
but nothing like 'baptism by fire' and all that good shh..tuff.

If you burn it as an audio cd, you're usually not able to rewrite it. You could burn it as a data cd with wav files on it, but it won't play in a standard cd player, which I am assuming you're using since you say it's for a voice over.

As far as extracting the cd audio, you can extract it as a wav or an mp3, nero will burn an audio cd with both. If you want some good ripping software, do a google search on cdexbeta. It's a good ripping tool and it's freeware last I heard.

And nero rocks.

Honestly, I'd say to just forget the rewriting thing, it'll probably be more trouble than it's worth. cd's are pretty darn cheap, no real reason to be worried about having to rewrite when you can just burn a new one...

Silence: No not just voice alone... this will be a powerpoint presentation which will include 7 or so images/charts etc... voice over with bkground music. Trying to convince her *not* to use the bkground music... no luck yet

So I guess if 'music' is included... I'll burn it as a .wav file. Thanx for the tiop on the software... will look into it.

Fig: I'm going to try at least one bundle of re-writables. Good for backups if nothin' else <bg>
