Hello all!
Would any of you like to check out a chat room I made with Flash/PHP/MySQL? I am looking for any comments/suggestions you might have. It is at:

thanks!

No, I am using two seperate text files for the users and the actual text. BTW: it really isn't finished. it's just in the testing stage....just in case you were wondering why it looked so bad....

The MySQL is what stores the room information, and the bad word filter (did you try entering an explitive yet?). I have a single admin.php file that allows me to add/edit/delete rooms, edit the bad words I want to filter, etc...

Email me and we can chat!

Aww man, I entered the PHP room just as jason had left!

Looks like the start of some cool thing. I don't know anything about network sockets - but I gather from your comments that each post is appended to a text file and Flash reloads the updated file?

Very neat - keep us up to date with developments!

Thanks guys! I will definately keep you posted to new developments.

The reason it looks like I have always left is that the text file that holds the iteration information doesn't get totally erased; the last person that left in the room will have their "so-and-so left the room" text in the file. There's probably a better way to program it, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Steve: Yep, it's like that. In theory, a PHP/FLASH chat is fairly simple. I did an ASP/FLASH chat that was very similar except that in ASP you can use application level variables instead of text files to hold the iteration data (you could do the same with JSP). I found out, however, due to PHP being SOOO fast, using the text files gave better performance.

I have another question: How are you connecting to the chat? Modem? Cable? DSL? I was just curious as how it worked on slower connections.
