I'm recording wave files (voice) to insert in a PowerPoint presentation. The problem is that when I 'first' play the file back in cooledit 'part' of the first word is chopped off. Rewind the file and start again everything is fine. When I insert the file in PowerPoint it's a case of hit and miss. That is... it's hit and miss with different files. Some play back in PP just fine... others with part of the first work chopped off.

It doesn't matter how many 'seconds' there are in front of the first word, the first time the .wav is played, part of the first word is chopped.

Any clues??

thanx

OK... I've tried everything I can think of and it's still no go. Even the windows 'recorder' chops off the beginning of the first word. Do you think this could be a soundcard problem? Soundblaster, a new one only 6 or so months old.

well, you could figure that out if you would play it on another computer....

hmmm. at the moment i also cant think of another explanaition/solution for this. really a strange problem.
sorry man.

Well I *think* I've pretty much tracked it down to a soundcard issue. I recorded all the voice tracks inserted them in Powerpoint and only the 'first' track is screwed. The remaining 18 waves all play just fine. However when I play individual waves *all* are clipped at the front. Perhaps has something to do with buffering. Gonna check it out now.

Nice thing is...that with the exception of that very first word... this thing is DONE!! <BG>

I had a simular problem: I went overboard with a prez and made it more like a movie than a slide show. Alas, pictures (small jpegs mind) were't loading -"fadeing in"- smothly, music was kicking in late and chopping out the begining and bits, - Basically the whole thing was a jerky mess.

Thought it was my computer not being able to cope, but I have recently upgraded and tried it again. - Having more cache and memory and more space helped a bit, but it was still crap and unuseable.

Conclusion: PowerPoint is not so "Powerfull".

I have now located a copy of Premiere, so, when I can work out how to use it I will put my show, (or re-do my show) in that.

ah, forgot to mention,

It did not slove my problem but did improve proformance:

Close everything and re-boot.try playing it back a few times first, and then it will me in the systems cache. - I found if i played it like 3 times in a row it would run smoother each time...

I know that still sucks.

Also, I found this likke feature:

...

Nope, cannot find it.

It was some option, Like "set up slide show" but with more options. Under edit or one of those drop down menus. - You could get it to run in its own window, state your graphics card, and, I think sound card, and basiclly get it to run better.

Goodluck!
