I have a copy of Adobe After Effects 4.1.
All I'm trying to do is make one of the imported 'footage file' clips play backwards (video).
I thought this would be one of the easiest things to find, but apparently not...

Okay.. I see how I can do that from the time um.. *forgot the name of that window* well.. the one that shows all the layers has a collapsable menu for time distortion (or something) that has to be enabled. I got my movie playing forward/backward, but I'm having a real hard time getting the settings accurate.
For example, I can set the marker to 0, and set the speed at this frame to 100%, then move over to frame 24, and set the speed to -100%, go to frame 48, set it back to 100%, but the point will look much different.. nya i'll post up again with some screen shots. I don't think I'm making too much sense at the moment.

I asked Mahjqa about that, and he never got back to me on it. I might try using less colors... not sure. Right.. Screenshots..

[edit] i dig your basketbal sig myself.. I'm tempted to make a mod of it where the black guy gets fed up and knocks your lights out XD (no offense, really.. It would just be funny) [/edit]

i don't specifically know how to do it in after effects, but the simple answer is that you're using the wrong tool for the job. any basic editor (premiere, final cut pro, even imovie) will make this easy to do, after effects just isn't designed for it (tho it can prob do it somehow).

Am I understanding correctly? you want to reverse the direction of playback of an imported clip in after Effects?

to do this just put the clip in your composition, select it from within the composition and use Layers>Time Stretch with a value of -100% (or vary that amount if you wantto speed it up or slow it down as well)

Hope This Helps

Sorry this took me so long.. Last time I posted this message, Mr. PC died, and I forgot what I was doing.
Also, Mike's server whos server I usually use for image isn't happy right now, so my image urls might not be right. (I'm using my best guess for the moment)

Img 1: As you can see here, I'm having trouble getting a nice 100% or -100%

Img 2: Here, I've moved the next keyframe to the highest point only to reach -86.99%...

Img 3: Here, I've just eyeballed an equal back-n-forth motion, but it's not very precise (which I found looks a little more real, but still..)

Fig: I can't afford anything more right now. After Effects is what I've got, so I'm stuck.
imnnm8r: I think that's what I tried first, and it didn't work very well.

Bmud I hope this help

I think that 4.1 version has a keyframe assitant that is called "time-reverse", I don't remember if it can be used with imported footage but it does works on keyframes, I think if you haven't try this option you should
