AFAIK Cold Fusion MX isn't a web server, it's a server side technology or server side language. Running a web site from your computeris a hugely complicated task, and I'd strongly recommend against it. Firstly it'll slow your average desktop computer down to a crawl if the site gets even a modest ammount of traffic, secondly it'll open up security holes on your computer left right and center, which you'd kneed to know a lot about network adminstration to keep ontop of, and then if you wanted to use an actual domain name you'd got a lot more headaches to deal with. This is what we pay hosting providers for. There a re quite a few around (man of the asylum users personal websites, along with the asylum itself is hoster by www.dreamhost.com whome are currentl having a sale with ond of thier hosting packages) although dreamhost dosn't offer cold fusion support, it's more of your typical LAMP host (Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP) but you can find hosting providers that offer Cold Fusion. However I believe they're usually a little more expensive due to the licence costs that Macromedia charge for the cold fusion software where as PHP is free and in most peoples eyes, a more capable server side language. There are also free hosting providers, but generally you get what you pay for, and given that CF has a licence fee attached to it I doubt you'll be able to find a free CF host. That said, you can usually get a decent web hositng package for just over $100 US a year, which really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.
