You can use both nurbs and patches for everything, it comes down to what you like most. I have seen incredible scenes done with both nurbes and with patches... |

From what I've seen so far, it looks to me like nurbs are the next step beyond patches. That's my observation so far. I haven't really dug too deep into either of them yet. |

You'll get better rounded surfaces with nurbs than with patches. I like nurbs better because I've always had better luck with splines. They still don't compare to subdivision surfaces (which are a pain to use in my opinion, but result in great 'organic' renders). |
