Well.. the problem is clear. They need map coordinates. To fix it, give them map coordinates. |

You can also use the 'built in' coordinates. Go back in the object's history to the cylinder creation, and check the check-box that says something like 'use mapping coordinates' (I don't have Max installed here, but it's something like that). |

In max 4, click on the modify tab, then scroll down the "Modifier List" menu until you get to the "UV Coordinate Modifiers" its the second one. In max 3, it'll be in the user manual, might be under a similar name. |

nope...MAX 3 comes with Unwrap UVW built in....Where as 3D Studio VIZ doesn't. Hmmm...a third party UVW unwrapper would work....Try TrU-V. |
