I'm quite new to 3D, but I would like to create 3D using mathematics, because I like to create visual things made with mathematics. I heard ray-tracing is a good option for this, but I have no clue about where to start. Can anyone give me some advise?

Thanks in advance, Koenie

Ok...for info:

Raytracing is a style of rendering (converting all those vertexes and polygons that make up your image into a shaded, textured image). Raytracing does not create anything. If you like creating things with mathemetics though, a good program for you would be the command-based POV-Ray. Available at all good POV-Ray home pages near you.

Definitely, start with POV-Ray ( www.povray.org ).

Plus, the tutorial that comes with povray is excellent.

Not to mention the GN Pov-Ray tutorials, two of which are written by Slime himself =)
