.. but I feel like sharing anyway.

Picked up Bryce 5 a short time ago just because I felt like having a 3d app around to play with. It was (relatively) cheap and ran under OSX, two big selling points for me. I find myself a little disappointed that it won't let me modify the meshes beyond booleans and scaling. Something like a face, body or most any complex symetrical thing would be really tough I think.

Anywho I started this with the idea of making a new sig in mind but came to the conclusion that it wouldn't work very well small soon thereafter so I went to the other end of the spectrum and rendered it big, keeping with the Asylum theme. A good chunk of this is PS as well because my 3d work so far improves a lot there. ;D Comments, advice and crits always welcome.

Well, I've never used Bryce, but I like the atmosphere and the concept. The image maps on the spheres seem sort of strange. The modelling is pretty good.

Yeah, Bryce is not a modeler.

Give Wings 3D a try:

Awesome modeler and it's free.
Not sure how you'll get meshes into Bryce, though.
Prolly have to use OBJ or 3DS or something.

Cool link. Downloading now. I know it'll open OBJ files, 3ds too I think. I thought the image maps were kinda weird too. There's a whole slew of ways to wrap them.. that was as close as I got. Looks like a spherize filter huh? The ground plane I made from a photographic algae texture I shot last summer. I have no idea how it came to look like that but kinda liked it so I stained it up in PS. Kinda fun being newbified, lots of discovering to do.

Thanks man.

Dude, that's awesome. I love the way the ozone screen reflects off of it. I think you should send it to Doc, in case he doesn't read this.

cyoung thats one fine image you created. I wonder how much you did in Bryce and how much in PS? I, like you, have just recently started playing with Bryce 'though nothing as well crafted as yours.
I don't know if you can create meshes. but you can import any 3ds (i'm 90% sure) and work with them, hands, faces, ect.

I tried to download Wings 3D too but it caused Internet explorer to crash each time so I gave up. I'm happy though as I have recently aquired Lightwave 3D, Maya and a new version of Studio Max Pro.
In your opinions which is best:
Maya..., Lightwave..., or 3D Studio Max pro...???

For a freeware package Maya Personal Learning Edition seems like a good deal to me other then the fact that you can't really do much without a big water mark on your image.

That is a great looking pic. My only crit, and some may not agree, but I think, "seek Asylum" gets lost. You have to hunt for it. I hate when I get criticism and don't get suggestions, so here's my suggestion: Maybe put "seek Asylum" into the wood flooring, in line with the spheres, a little bigger than it is now.

or

to keep with "got lunacy", maybe just change the size/color.

wings is a killer little program, i've got the exe for the program one or two versions back if anyone wants it, i can put it up somewhere to download.

as far as PLE-type programs go softimage has a VERY functional of xsi 3.0 with only a small corner watermark, really nice stuff. as what program is best its all personal preference and what you want to do. maya is used mostly in film (but is catching on in games), lightwave in tv and commercial and some film work, and max largely in games (tho a bit in film). i personally can't stand max, i've played with maya but it hasn't clicked for me yet, and i love lightwave. give them a shot and see what you like.

btw, you can actually find lightwave 5.6 (an older but very functional version) rather cheap on ebay. i'm a supporter of having a non-"acquired" version of the software

hey please don't assume... everything you ever have is 'aquired'... you make no sense.

Main Entry: ac·quire
Pronunciation: &-'kwIr
Function: transitive verb
Inflected Form(s): ac·quired; ac·quir·ing
Etymology: Middle English aqueren, from Middle French aquerre, from Latin acquirere, from ad- + quaerere to seek, obtain
Date: 15th century
1 : to get as one's own: a : to come into possession or control of often by unspecified means b : to come to have as a new or added characteristic, trait, or ability (as by sustained effort or natural selection) <acquire fluency in French> <bacteria that acquire tolerance to antibiotics>
2 : to locate and hold (a desired object) in a detector <acquire a target by radar>

i make lots of sense, my word has quote around and your definition didn't, gives it a totally different meaning didn't realize i was assuming anything anyway, i'm just advocating buying software. as someone was looking for a freeware 3d app i figured i'd offer a cheap non-warez alternative.

DVgarage also has a great sale going on at the moment with the 3d Toolkit (older version of electric image with tutorials) for only $99, tough to beat.

Sorry for the tardiness. Kinda lost track of this one. Glad you all like. Thanks for the crits but lately I'm back to playing with my cameras.. you know, pictures of the real world. Don't think I'll do much more with this honestly. I'm funny like that, bouncing around from one vice to the next.

Tao- here's a little pic of the pre-photoshop version. As I said before, my 3d work improves there, heck everything improves there.
